Meet Traci A. Gibson

About

Traci A. Gibson is a native Houstonian, attorney, and a lifelong advocate for justice and equity. A graduate of Texas A&M University and the University of Houston Law Center, she built her legal career in both the public and private sectors, serving as a prosecutor, litigator, and adjunct professor before founding her own firm, Gibson Hamilton. Whether guiding organizations, representing individuals, or fighting for justice in the courtroom, Traci has earned a reputation for delivering results and protecting what matters most. That same dedication now drives her commitment to building a Democratic Party that protects working families, expands opportunity, and fights for a fairer, more inclusive future.

Traci’s passion for advocacy began while attending one of the most conservative universities in the nation. She volunteered for the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, investigating how discriminatory school discipline policies criminalized students of color. Traci organized forums and led student protests to address systemic injustice, social inequality, and campus divisiveness, fostering dialogue, demanding accountability, and advancing equity for all students. During law school, Traci expanded her advocacy through the National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA), successfully lobbying for the dismantling of disenfranchising regional maps through constitutional reform, which led her to become the founder of the organization’s Southwest Region. Her experience as a NBLSA Regional Chair and National Chair of Ms. JD’s National Women’s Law Student Organization shaped Traci’s approach to leadership focused on expanding opportunities for all communities.

As Past President of the Houston Lawyers Association, Traci led initiatives that strengthened civic engagement, voter protection, and community empowerment across Harris County. She organized voter registration drives, advocacy town halls, voting rights panels, and partnered with local groups to support election protection hotlines. Traci also focused on institutional growth and long-term impact. She introduced the organization’s first full-service Expunction Clinic, which removed financial and filing barriers for underserved Houstonians, and launched Back to School Legal Readiness programs to equip parents with tools to combat the school-to-prison pipeline and protect students’ rights. She spearheaded HLA’s first Advocacy Day where members met directly with lawmakers on issues including economic justice, criminal justice reform, education, voting rights, health equity, and affordable housing, culminating in House Resolution 390 honoring HLA’s advocacy. To deepen engagement and mentorship, she created the Legislative Student Research Task Force, empowering law students to track bills, draft policy briefs, and contribute to ongoing legislative strategies. Traci’s tenure marked historic milestones with record fundraising, unprecedented membership expansion, and strategic partnerships with local, state, and national organizations that amplified HLA’s impact.

Traci currently serves as a Precinct Chair for the Harris County Democratic Party and as an Executive Board Member of the Houston Black American Democrats, where she chairs the Planning and Development Committee. She is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, serves on the Alumni Advisory Board for the Southwest Black Law Students Association and as Deputy Director of Region V (Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi) for the National Bar Association.

Recognized at the local, state, and national levels for her leadership, her strategic approach combines coalition-building, targeted outreach, and efficient processes to maximize impact and ensure every dollar advances meaningful programs. Traci’s dynamic leadership not only increases financial support but also strengthens relationships with donors, volunteers, and community partners, creating a sustainable network of resources. She is ready to bring that same record of organizing, fundraising, and results-driven leadership to the Harris County Democratic Party.
