About the Role
The Harris County Democratic Party Chair is the local leader responsible for keeping the Party strong, organized, and moving forward year-round. The County Chair sets the vision, builds the team, and connects the dots between voters, candidates, and community leaders to make sure Democrats win at every level.
What the County Chair Does
1. Lead the Party
- Provide strategic direction and ensure the Party’s operations, priorities, and programs align with its long-term goals.
- Preside over County Executive Committee (CEC) meetings and coordinate with hundreds of precinct chairs across Harris County.
- Plan and host the County Convention, where Democratic voters help shape the platform and prepare for the general election.
2. Build People Power
- Recruit, train, and support candidates and precinct chairs to organize effectively in their communities.
- Mobilize volunteers for voter registration, outreach, and Get Out The Vote (GOTV) efforts.
- Strengthen grassroots infrastructure to turn local engagement into sustained electoral success.
3. Engage the Community & Strengthen Coalitions
- Lead voter education and civic engagement programs that connect and empower communities across Harris County.
- Build partnerships with Democratic clubs, labor unions, advocacy organizations, and faith leaders to expand the Party’s reach.
- Serve as the public voice of the Party — uplifting Democratic values, amplifying local leadership, and representing Harris County Democrats on every level.
4. Run the Election Process
- Serve as the chief administrator of the Democratic primary, ensuring fairness, transparency, and compliance with state law.
- Accept and manage candidate filings for offices ranging from Precinct Chair to state legislature.
- Appoint qualified election judges and support fair election administration across the county.
5. Raise Resources & Manage Operations
- Fundraise to sustain Party operations, voter programs, and campaign infrastructure.
- Develop budgets and ensure resources are managed transparently and effectively.
- Invest strategically in organizing, communications, and outreach efforts that grow Democratic participation countywide.

The County Chair is the person who brings the Party together and makes it work across Harris County. From organizing volunteers to building coalitions, and running elections, this role ensures that the Harris County Democratic Party is strong, visible, and organized.
